～に至って — Reaching the Extreme Point
Indicates reaching an extreme or final stage/situation, often one that is serious or belated. に至って/に至る marks arriving at that point, while に至るまで means 'extending even as far as' the most extreme item. It frequently carries a nuance that action or realization comes only after things have gone this far.

Examples
事故が起きるに至って、ようやく規則が見直された。
Jiko ga okiru ni itatte, yōyaku kisoku ga minaosareta.
It was only when it reached the point of an accident that the rules were finally reviewed.
に至って marks the extreme stage (an accident) after which action was belatedly taken.
彼は倒産に至る原因を分析した。
Kare wa tōsan ni itaru gen'in o bunseki shita.
He analyzed the causes that led to bankruptcy.
に至る modifies 原因, describing causes reaching the final outcome of bankruptcy.
料理から食器に至るまで、すべて手作りだ。
Ryōri kara shokki ni itaru made, subete tezukuri da.
Everything, from the food right down to the tableware, is handmade.
に至るまで extends the scope to even the most detailed extreme item, 食器.
• Register: formal/written and somewhat literary. • に至って often implies action came too late or only after a crisis. • に至るまで pairs with から to mean 'from X all the way to (even) Y'.
Commonly confused with
The JLPT rarely asks whether you recognise a pattern — it asks which of several similar patterns fits. These are the ones ～に至って is tested against.
vs ～まで
Plain まで just marks an endpoint; に至るまで emphasizes that the range extends surprisingly far, even to an extreme item.
vs ～てはじめて
てはじめて means 'only after doing X'; に至って adds the nuance of reaching a serious or extreme stage before realization or action.
