～に至って— Reaching the Extreme Point

• 事故が起きるに至って、ようやく規則が見直された。

  Jiko ga okiru ni itatte, yōyaku kisoku ga minaosareta.

  It was only when it reached the point of an accident that the rules were finally reviewed.

  に至って marks the extreme stage (an accident) after which action was belatedly taken.

• 彼は倒産に至る原因を分析した。

  Kare wa tōsan ni itaru gen'in o bunseki shita.

  He analyzed the causes that led to bankruptcy.

  に至る modifies 原因, describing causes reaching the final outcome of bankruptcy.

• 料理から食器に至るまで、すべて手作りだ。

  Ryōri kara shokki ni itaru made, subete tezukuri da.

  Everything, from the food right down to the tableware, is handmade.

  に至るまで extends the scope to even the most detailed extreme item, 食器.

• ・Register: formal/written and somewhat literary.
• ・に至って often implies action came too late or only after a crisis.
• ・に至るまで pairs with から to mean 'from X all the way to (even) Y'.
