～ながら(も)— Even While

• 彼は貧しいながらも、幸せに暮らしている。

  Kare wa mazushii nagara mo, shiawase ni kurashite iru.

  Although he is poor, he lives happily.

  い-adjective 貧しい + ながらも contrasts poverty with happiness

• 残念ながら、今回は参加できません。

  Zannen nagara, konkai wa sanka dekimasen.

  Regrettably, I can't participate this time.

  な-adjective stem 残念 + ながら, a set concessive phrase

• 悪いと知りながらも、嘘をついてしまった。

  Warui to shirinagara mo, uso o tsuite shimatta.

  Even though I knew it was wrong, I ended up lying.

  知り (stem of 知る) + ながらも contrasts knowing with acting otherwise

• ・Concessive ながら(も) means 'although,' distinct from the 'while doing' ながら (which needs two actions by one person).
• ・Attaches to verb stems, い-adjectives, な-adjective stems, and nouns.
• ・Register: slightly formal/literary; the も heightens the contrast.
