Abstract benefit/purpose with Noun + の + ために
• Volition Only: Use ために with actions you can CONTROL and a subject that stays the same. For results you can't control, use 〜ように. • Noun Target: Use Noun + の to show who/what benefits: あなたのために (for you). • Caution: In N3/N2, ために can also mean "because of" (cause); at N4, focus on Purpose.
The JLPT rarely asks whether you recognise a pattern — it asks which of several similar patterns fits. These are the ones ために is tested against.
ために takes a volitional/controllable action and a same-subject goal (勉強するために); ように is used for potential/negative/uncontrollable outcomes (忘れないように, 話せるように).
The purpose ために means "in order to"; the causal use (雨のために = "because of the rain") means "due to." Purpose pairs with volitional verbs, cause with events/states.
Verb-dictionary + のに (〜のに使う/〜のに便利) marks what an action or thing is used for (a means/tool); ために states a goal you act toward.
