～どおり(に)— Just As

• 計画どおりに工事が進んでいる。

  Keikaku doori ni kouji ga susundeiru.

  The construction is progressing exactly as planned.

  Noun 計画 + どおりに shows faithful correspondence to the plan (rendaku).

• 先生が言ったとおりに書いてください。

  Sensei ga itta toori ni kaite kudasai.

  Please write exactly as the teacher said.

  Verb 言った + とおりに follows a verb, so no rendaku occurs.

• 結果は予想どおりだった。

  Kekka wa yosou doori datta.

  The result was just as expected.

  予想 + どおり used predicatively, meaning 'exactly as anticipated'.

• ・Rendaku: noun-suffix form is どおり (計画どおり); after a verb use とおり (言ったとおり).
• ・に is often optional when used adverbially before a verb.
• ・Common set nouns: 予定どおり, 期待どおり, 思ったとおり.
