～から見ると／から見て— Seen From

Indicates the viewpoint or evidence from which one observes and judges — 'seen from X' or 'from X's viewpoint.' It can express whose perspective is being taken or what evidence a judgment rests on. The main clause typically gives an assessment or inference.

  • 私から見ると、彼はまだ子供だ。

    Watashi kara miru to, kare wa mada kodomo da.

    From my point of view, he's still a child.

    私 (I) marks whose viewpoint the judgment comes from

  • この結果から見て、計画は成功だと言える。

    Kono kekka kara mite, keikaku wa seikou da to ieru.

    Judging from these results, we can say the plan was a success.

    結果 (results) is the evidence for the conclusion

  • 空の色から見ると、もうすぐ雨が降りそうだ。

    Sora no iro kara miru to, mou sugu ame ga furisou da.

    Judging from the color of the sky, it looks like rain soon.

    空の色 (color of the sky) is the observational basis

Usage notes · 注意

  • Two uses: whose viewpoint ('from my view') and evidence ('judging from X').
  • から見て is the more conclusive, assertive form.
  • Nearly interchangeable with からすると.

Commonly confused with

The JLPT rarely asks whether you recognise a pattern — it asks which of several similar patterns fits. These are the ones ～から見ると／から見て is tested against.

vs～からすると

から見ると emphasizes the observational or visual vantage point, while からすると leans slightly toward reasoning from a source. In practice they overlap heavily.

vs～にとって

から見ると frames a judgment or evaluation from a viewpoint, whereas にとって simply marks the party for whom something holds significance, without implying an assessment.
